FG Suspends Application Of Passports

 The federal government of Nigeria has on Monday 17th of May announced the suspension of processing of new passport applications in all passport offices across the country.


A statement issued by the honourable minister of interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, signed by the Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration Services, AB Yarima stated that the directive to suspend the processing of new passport application has come into effect from Monday, May 17th 2021. This is to enable the PCOs to utilize the period to clear backlogs of applications before starting the new passport regime on the 1st of June 2021.

According to the minister, PCOs have been directed to ensure that all backlogs are produced and handed over to the Command Comptrollers for collection by those concerned.

The suspension of processing of new passport applications will last until May 31, while new applications for passports, whether fresh or renewal are to resume on June 1st 2021. The minister says.
