Oman Extends Ban On International Passengers

Oman has extended the ban it placed on fourteen countries and has announced a fresh one on two additional countries from Friday, 7 May 2021 until further notice.

The Supreme Committee on Covid-19 in Oman in February announced the suspension of international passengers from 10 countries including Nigeria and later increased the list to 14 countries. The committee believed that the decision it took would help the country combat the new variant of Covid-19.

The affected countries are Sudan, Lebanon, South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone. Others are Ethiopia, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. While Egypt and the Philippines have just been added to the list.

According to the committee, travelers who have been to any of the aforementioned countries or have transited through any of them in the previous 14 days before their request to enter Oman will not be granted access to the country from Friday the 7th.

All airlines operating to and from Oman have been instructed to abide by the new rules and decisions, failing of which will incur stringent action against the offenders, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The above decision does not apply to Omani citizens, diplomats, healthcare workers, and their families who will be subject to the Covid-19 prevention protocols and approved procedures upon arriving in the Sultanate. The committee stated.
