Canada has ended its campaign against nonessential travel for foreigners.
The reports have it that the new guidance, which overrules the existing advisory since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in March last year, is a pointer to the success of the COVID-19 vaccination in Canada.
According to the Chief Public Health Officer, Theresa Tam during a press briefing, "the beginnings of the transition away from the more blanket approach really recognizes vaccines are very effective at preventing severe outcomes."
Tam added that: "Data indicate a continued decline in disease activity nationally and in most jurisdictions."
Officials in Ontario, Canada's most populous province have also disclosed plans to lift all COVID-19 restrictions which include requiring masking and proof of vaccination, by March 2022.
"From Monday, we would as well start removing capacity limits in the vast majority of public spaces," Provincial officials noted.
The improvement is coming up after Ontario spent most of the pandemic period in lockdown as a result of high COVID-19 infections and hospital occupancy rates.
"This plan is built for the long term, it will guide us safely through the winter and out of this pandemic while avoiding lockdowns and ensuring we don’t lose the hard-fought gains we have made," Ontario Premier Doug Ford says.
Meanwhile, "it is not yet time to just freely go anywhere despite the changes." Tam warned.
