Switzerland To Extend COVID Testing Requirements For Deportees

Switzerland intends to expand the testing obligation to include all people who will be deported back to their home countries. The Swiss Federal Council has announced.

The old law was set to expire in December 2022. The Federal Council, on the other hand, requested that such a rule be prolonged until the end of June 2024 so that Swiss cantons can continue to enforce it.

According to the council, "At its meeting on June 3, 2022, the Federal Council passed a message to extend this regulation until the end of June 2024 so that the cantons can continue to fulfill their enforcement task." The previous regulation is limited to December 31, 2022.

Switzerland's Federal Council has urged immediate parliamentary action to ensure that all expelled persons are deported without issue. The majority of the countries of origin of people who are forced to leave Switzerland still require a negative COVID-19 test result for reentry and transportation of these people. This means that as long as transport companies insist on a negative COID-19, Switzerland will not abandon its deportation testing policy.

According to the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, Switzerland has had the lowest number of cases of norovirus COVID19 in the world thus far. Only 1,194 new instances of the virus have been reported in the last seven days, compared to a total of 15,720,430 vaccination doses administered so far.
