Legal status and the law on foreigners which intends to make it easier for citizens of other nations to get employed easily have officially gone into effect in Lithuania.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, all foreign workers now have easier access to temporary residency permits. Only at a Lithuanian diplomatic mission or consular facility, if one is located in their home country, foreigners can apply for a work visa. Employers just need to confirm one of the requirements to grant workers' visas and residence permits, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of Employment and Labour, in order to grant workers' visas and residence permits.
“A temporary employment
contract can be concluded with a foreigner. In this case, a decision must be
obtained from the Employment Service under the Ministry of Social Security and
Labour of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter – the Employment Service)
regarding the conformity of the foreigner’s work with the needs of the
Lithuanian labour market,” the
Ministry stated.
Employers are not required
to provide information about foreign workers' training, credentials, and other
factors. Foreign nationals who have been granted temporary protection and wish
to apply for a temporary residence permit based on employment do not need to
wait for the Employment Service to make a determination. Those who have
finished their training or studies in Lithuania are now eligible to seek a
temporary resident permit within ten years of their completion.
According to the
Ministry's statement, “this relief applies if the foreigner applies for a
work-based residence permit for the first time after the granting of temporary
protection or if the residence permit is changed, and the foreigner’s employer
has not changed.”
Students no longer have a time limit on how many
hours they can work. With regard to the number of hours they can work each
week, students are no longer constrained.
