Air France has announced it will be canceling about 400 flights on Friday due to a strike by French air traffic controllers in the country.
An Air France-KLM spokesperson who disclosed it on Wednesday says that the French division of the joint company would cancel about 400 flights out of 800 on Friday. Only 45% of short and medium-haul flights will function on Friday, while 90% of long–haul connections will be operated. The airline added that affected customers would be notified via text message and email.
The carrier stated that the French Civil Aviation
Authority has requested that airlines reduce their flight schedule by half in all French airports.
The post-pandemic
significant rise in travel demand has been difficult for the European aviation
sector to handle. The previous months have witnessed an increase in flight
delays and cancellations due to strikes, staff shortages, and capacity
restrictions at various airports.
The strike is occurring as the French government is getting ready to present its budget for 2023, which the union claims does not guarantee the DGAC's funding and may restrict its capacity to give salary increase.
