Due to a scheduled air traffic controller strike
on Friday in France, Turkish Airlines has suspended 21 flights to various
destinations in France.
The French civil aviation agency, DGAC, advises airlines to cancel half of their flights on Friday. The DGAC stated that it was collaborating with the European aviation safety agency, Eurocontrol, to assist airlines in avoiding the nation's airspace. Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux, and Toulouse have been canceled by Turkish Airlines.
“Air traffic will be severely disrupted
throughout the national territory from Friday morning to Saturday morning,” the
Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated.
"Cancellations and significant delays are
expected," it stated.
On Wednesday, the country's largest airline
announced that more than half of its short- and medium-haul flights would be
canceled on Friday.
The flag carrier announced in a statement that
impacted passengers would be informed through email and text message regarding
any remaining flights. "We can’t rule out delays and last-minute
cancellations."
According to Air France, only 45% of short-and medium-haul flights will fly on Friday, while 90% of long-haul connections will take place. The strike is taking place as the French government gets ready to present its 2023 budget, which the union claims does not guarantee the DGAC's funding and may restrict its ability to offer salary increases. Union representatives express concerns about future hiring and lament the fact that inflation is diminishing consumers' purchasing power.
