Apart from high-risk locations like hospitals,
public transportation, and pharmacies, Cyprus has totally dropped face mask-wearing obligations. Wear a protective mask
inside has been totally removed.
This was announced by the Cypriot Health Minister, Michalis Hadijpantela, who stated that the improved epidemiological situation was the main factor for the news.
“It is recommended that people belonging to vulnerable
groups and people interacting with high-risk people wear their masks,” local
Cypriot media reports, warning citizens to take precautions.
After August 31, there will be no restrictions on how many people
can occupy a given area, making it possible for restaurants, nightclubs,
stadiums, churches, and casinos to operate at their maximum occupancy capacity.
The government has also provided all kids in elementary and pre-primary schools a
free set of five self-tests in place of the mandated quick tests.
“After three years, we are in a position to move with
significant relaxations of the current measures, as the epidemiological data
show significant improvement in our country. We will continue to raise
awareness of the need to observe protection measures and the benefits of vaccination
against COVID-19, among other things,” the minister stated.
The required tests for returning students
and staff will be eliminated, but they will still need to pass a weekly rapid
or self-test. The health minister says that the national action plan will continue to prioritize preserving public health while maintaining an open and resilient society and economy.
According to the new rules, Cyprus is entirely open to tourists,
and as tourism minister Savvas Perdios disclosed, the country has already
surpassed 80% of its pre-pandemic tourism levels, welcoming close to four
million visitors as of July.
