US to Expand Premium Processing for Green Card and Other Visa Categories

The United States government has announced that it intends to quicken the premium processing for some Green Card applicants and other visa categories, such as foreign student training.

The processing of EB-1 and EB-2 green card applications is being expanded by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). By increasing efficiency and reducing pressure on the legal immigration system, the expansion intends to benefit both. Form I-140 petitions previously submitted and classified as E13 multinational executives and managers will also be included.

"Starting Jan. 30, we are expanding premium processing for all EB-1 and EB-2 Form I-140 petitions. "In the coming months, we will expand to F-1 students filing Form I-765 and J-1 exchange visitors filing Form I-539," USCIS stated.

To receive premium processing, petitioners must submit Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service. Beginning January 30, 2023, all outstanding E13 multinational executive and management petitions and E21 NIW petitions will be subject to request submission to the USICS.

"In March, we will expand premium processing to certain F-1 students seeking Optional Practical Training (OPT) and F-1 students seeking STEM OPT extensions who have a pending Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization," USCIS said.

"In April, we will expand premium processing to F-1 students seeking OPT and F-1 students seeking STEM OPT extensions who are filing an initial Form I-765," it added.

The expansion of premium processing for requests for work permits and extensions of temporary immigration status has been approved by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). These petitions will cost an additional $2,500 for expedited handling. This is in response to the recommendations of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
