The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that eight domestic carriers and one foreign airline have all submitted bids to airlift 95,000 pilgrims for the 2023 hajj exercise. Nine local airline operators and Flynas were the only international airline that participated in the bid.
The participating local carriers are Air Peace, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, Azman, Max Air, Sky power Express, United Nigeria Airlines, and Value jet.
The first flight for the pilgrimage is scheduled to depart
on May 21, according to Zikrullah Adekunle Hassan, head of NAHCON. To obtain
presidential clearance, he asked the screening committee to work around the
clock and present the chosen airlines by March 7. The Saudi government has set
a deadline of March 7 for all intending pilgrims to complete their registration
with the state welfare board or the hajj savings plan. He also advised all of
them to do so.
Captain Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, the director general of the
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), stated that every aircraft must
demonstrate that they have verifiable aircraft before they will be taken into
consideration. Operators who fail to keep their schedule throughout the
exercise without a valid justification, according to Nuhu, will be penalized.
The basic requirements for operating large airports are not always met, he
continued, and this causes travelers to lose valuable time before their
flights.
