Air France and KLM have announced that they will switch from Heathrow's Terminal 3 to Terminal 4 on March 26, pending IT system checks.
Heathrow requested the change, which will result in longer connecting times for SkyTeam partner aircraft. Due to capacity approaching pre-pandemic levels and probable congestion difficulties at T3, the move is being made.
Virgin Atlantic has
stated it will remain at T3, meaning there will be a 90-minute minimum
connection time between aircraft operated by Air France-KLM and those operated
by Virgin Atlantic or Delta. This is less than ideal for customers who were
looking for seamless connections. We will get in touch with customers whose
reservations already have shorter transfer times to set up the proper
arrangements.
The general manager
of Air France and KLM for the UK and Ireland, Fahmi Mahjoub, said, "While
we regret no longer being in the same terminal as our partners Virgin and
Delta, we are happy to be back at Terminal 4, which offers a very convenient
experience for our passengers, with short distances between check-in and
boarding and an overall less crowded environment. Moreover, we have been
working with London Heathrow and are confident that transfers between Terminal
4 and Terminal 3 will work efficiently."
Air France and KLM
relocated to Terminal 2 during the pandemic, and T3 reopened in July 2021. Air
France-KLM passengers should check in at Zone H once they are back in Terminal
4, and Air France/Heathrow will retire some of its older Airbus aircraft and
replace them with the Airbus A220-300 on the LHR to Paris CDG route. The Airbus
A220 is 34% quieter and 20% more fuel-efficient when compared to the Airbus
A318 and A319 models, and it features 128 economy-class seats and 20
business-class seats, with one adjacent seat obstructed for more privacy.
