China Lifts Visa Restrictions For Foreign Travelers

China has announced the lifting of visa restrictions on foreign travelers from March 15, 2023. The country will begin granting several visas to travelers from other countries.

This decision is being taken as the country gradually loosens its rigid COVID containment regulations. The action is anticipated to reduce travel restrictions put in place since the COVID-19 pandemic's outbreak.

Visas issued before March 28, 2020, will be accepted for access into China, according to a statement from the Chinese embassy in Washington. This is the most recent action taken by Chinese officials to reopen their nation to the rest of the world. China had 65.7 million foreign tourists in 2019 before the coronavirus outbreak. Late in 2022, China started to abandon its COVID containment measures, although an increase in COVID cases followed the sudden release of severe COVID restrictions.

Beijing stated in late December that foreigners entering the country would not be subject to quarantine, although visa requirements would still apply. Beijing stated that it will "continue to adjust its visa policy for foreign visitors visiting China scientifically and dynamically by the epidemic situation."

In addition to fostering closer ties with other countries, China hopes the new visa policy will boost its economy by attracting foreign tourists and investors.
