Germany Witnessed Several Flight Cancelations Due to Airport Staff strike

Thousands of passengers were stranded today across Germany due to the strike action called by the trade union which led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. Four major airports, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, and,  Hannover in Germany all witnessed disruption as a result of the industrial action.

A one-day strike announced by the local trade union Verdi as a result of a failed collective agreement over the weekend and night shift pay, the airports in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, and Bremen were obliged to cancel a significant number of flights. The airports have urged travelers to exercise patience and follow their airline's instructions for tracking their flights.

There have been 200 canceled departures due to the Berlin Airport strike, impacting 27,000 people. The airport has issued a warning that individuals traveling into the airport may also be affected and is requesting that customers confirm the takeoff of their flights before departing.

On its official Twitter account, Berlin Brandenburg Airport posted, "Due to the warning strike by employees at the aviation security controls, no commercial departures will take place at BER today, March 13th. Incoming flights may also be affected. Passengers are asked to check with their airline regarding their flight status."

According to the Hamburg airport, regular departures won't be feasible from late Sunday night to late Monday night. Regarding arrivals, the airport outlined that they would be feasible throughout the strike.

"Ver. di strike: No departures possible today and almost half of the arrivals canceled. Security check closed all day. No evening check-in for Tuesday flights," Hamburg Airport said.

Around 30,000 travelers will be impacted by the disruptions, according to The Washington Post, which will affect at least 123 departing flights from Hamburg Airport today. In addition, the current strike at the four airports mentioned above may cause an additional 121 arriving planes to be delayed. The largest airline in Germany, Lufthansa, has advised customers of alternative routes and is anticipating significant interruptions to aircraft operations throughout the entire day. As soon as Tuesday, it anticipates that operations will return to normal.
