The Finnish Government has decided to reduce the processing time of residence permit applications filed by foreigners who have secured jobs in the country.
According to the Finnish Immigration Service, the processing period for work-based residence permits has been reduced to about a month. All open applications will be handled by the new law. The procedure has been mechanized across the nation, and employers and candidates must now submit applications for a residency permit online.
"The amendment stems from a
more extensive concept aiming to cut the processing time of work-based permits
down to an average of one month." The new provisions also enable the more
extensive use of automation. "For quick processing, the applicant and the
employer should primarily use online services for the application
process," the Finnish Immigration
Service stated.
The
Immigration Service has made it clear that, as long as a foreign worker
possesses a legal document, the validity of a travel document no longer
influences the length of a permit. The authorities will decide on their
application, and the employer will need to assess the employee's professional
abilities. As a result, the employee won't need to provide the Immigration
Service with as much paperwork.
"The processing of the
application will not start until the employer has filled in terms of employment and any other employer-related attachments in the residence permit
application based on work," the Finnish
Immigration Service stated.
In Finland, there have been a lot more requests for residency permits in recent years, most of which are for travel for work or study. With 16,081 judgments, Finland received the most favorable responses to applications for work permits last year. In comparison to previous years, the processing period for a work-based residence permit application has decreased to 110 days.
