German Government Adjusts Skilled Immigration Act

The German government has given its ultimate approval to the updated Skilled Immigration Act, which will allow more skilled foreign nationals to come and work in the country.

The modifications are intended to make it less difficult for foreign workers with specific skills to enter the country, settle, and find employment. According to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, the action is a first step toward the development of contemporary immigration legislation.

"We will ensure that we bring the skilled workers into the country that our economy has been urgently needing for years. Anyone who speaks to small and medium-sized businesses and the trades knows that this is the only way we can ensure the prosperity of our country," she stated.

Hubertus Heil, Germany's labor minister, emphasized the significance of both domestic and foreign skilled labor for the country's economic prosperity in the years to come.

"With the Skilled Immigration Act, we are laying the foundation for a modern immigration country that not only accepts qualified immigration but also wants it," he stated.

More university graduates will be eligible for the EU Blue Card, and foreigners who have at least two years of professional experience and a state-recognized professional qualification in their native country will be allowed to work in Germany. Professional qualifications no longer need to go through formal recognition processes; those who desire to have their professional qualifications recognized in Germany may do so upon arrival. It will be possible to work up to 20 hours per week on a job-seeker visa for individuals who want to travel to Germany and look for work in their industry; for industries with high demand, short-term employment for up to 8 months will also be permitted.
