The Slovenian government has announced that the
Aliens Act will be amended, making it simpler for citizens of other countries
to get residency permits. The effort intends to recruit more foreign employees into the country to address a labor shortage.
The permit can now be acquired more quickly thanks to changes published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia on April 27. The government has also made free Slovenian language and culture classes available to all categories of immigrants. A1 entry-level language proficiency is required of family members of foreign nationals living in Slovenia, whereas basic level A2 proficiency is required of individuals requesting permanent residency permits.
Beginning on November 1, 2024, anyone extending a
temporary residence permit due to family reunification and anyone applying for
a permanent residence permit will need to provide proof of Slovenian language
proficiency at the required level.
The Slovenian government is making efforts to simplify the application process for a residency permit. These include removing the necessity for individuals already residing in the nation to submit written authorization from the administrative unit when changing employers and simplifying the application process for hiring foreigners in healthcare and social services. Foreigners with expired temporary protection status are also permitted to apply for a temporary residence permit within eight days. Slovenia's economy and society stand to gain from the government's initiatives to attract more international employees there.
