The Ministry of Interior in Qatar has made significant
modifications to its family visa process, making it easier to bring families to
the country. Both family visits and residency applications are affected by the
changes.
These modifications are part of a larger initiative to improve the quality of services delivered, which is consistent with the state's overall approach.
The new procedures in Qatar benefit citizens who want to
rejoin with their families, expats looking for work, and families planning
extended stays. Sponsoring families is subject to particular rules in the
employee's electronic work contract, which largely address salary and housing
details. Employees in the government and semi-government sectors must secure
family housing or earn at least QAR 10,000, while private sector employees in
technical or specialized industries must earn at least QAR 10,000 or QAR 6,000.
Qatar's family sponsorship system has strict restrictions,
including children under 25, unmarried daughters, and health insurance covering
the entire family's stay. Children aged 6-18 must enrol in licensed schools or
submit proof of education enrollment outside the country. Wage and housing
requirements are tied to the employee's e-work contract, with government and
semi-government employees requiring family housing or a minimum wage of QAR
10,000. Private sector employees must have a technical/specialized profession
and a salary of QAR 10,000 or QAR 6,000 with certified family housing.
Sponsored children must be unmarried and at least 25 years old. The Ministry of
Tourism has changed its procedures for family visits, requiring non-labour
sectors, a minimum wage of QAR 5,000, and approved family housing. Visitors
must have health insurance covering their entire stay in Qatar and be relatives
within acceptable degrees of kinship.
