Canada Implements New Open Work Permit for Residents' Spouses

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the implementation of a policy that allows wives, partners, and dependents of Canadian residents, citizens, temporary workers, and students to apply for an open work permit at the same time that they submit their entire application for permanent residence.

This change is intended to improve family reunification and to assist immigrants by allowing them to work for any employer in Canada while their application is being processed.

Canada's permanent residency program now allows spouses, partners, and dependents to apply for an open work visa while their sponsorship application is being processed. This policy eliminates the need for an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) before filing for an open work visa, benefiting thousands of Canadian families. The new policy allows sponsored persons to work for any employer in Canada and support their families. Individuals and those wanting to sponsor their spouse, partner, or child for permanent residence must apply online. Spousal sponsorship is crucial in Canada's immigration system, promoting family reunification and fostering a diverse society. Once sponsored individuals become permanent residents, they are entitled to the same rights as Canadian citizens, including healthcare, education, and social services.

Open work permits slated to expire between August 1 and the end of 2023 have been extended, providing additional support and flexibility for those awaiting permanent residency applications. The IRCC encourages all eligible individuals to apply for an open work visa, allowing them to contribute to the Canadian economy and establish a better future for themselves and their families. Processing dates may vary, so it's best to seek professional advice from an immigration consultant. These policies demonstrate Canada's commitment to family unity, immigration support, and workforce inclusivity.
