The UAE has introduced the 'Private
Teacher Work Permit' to regulate and professionalize private tutoring.
The initiative, created in collaboration with the Ministries of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Education, aims to eliminate illicit private tuition and empower competent educators. It was launched on December 19 to establish a more regulated and professional private tutoring landscape in the country.
The 'Private Teacher Work Permit' intends to eliminate
illicit private tuition by catering to a wide range of people, including
registered instructors, employees, jobless people, school pupils, and
university students. Undersecretary Mohammad Al Mualla underlines the permit's
importance in protecting the rights of private instructors and delivering
quality education for kids aged 15 to 18.
The permit, which is free for two years, covers tuition and
extra income. Applicants must provide a valid passport or Emirates ID, a signed
code of conduct declaration, a certificate of good behaviour, and a No Objection
Certificate from both employers and students' guardians. Private teachers
without a ministry permit may face fines and penalties. The permit allows for online and in-person tutoring, with no limit on the number of students.
The process takes one to five working days, and applicants can reapply after
six months if denied. This initiative aligns with the UAE's commitment to
quality education and student and teacher rights.
