Singapore's Health Ministry has issued a new COVID-19 travel
recommendation for international visitors, emphasizing the increase in cases
from 32,035 to 56,043 between December 3 and 9, 2023.
The warning highlights the significance of remaining informed and prioritizing safety, citing the need for complete healthcare contingency plans and personalized instructions due to the increase in cases.
Singapore saw a large spike in COVID-19 instances, with
56,043 reported on December 3-9, 2023, compared to 32,035 the prior
week. Hospitalizations and ICU admissions increased marginally, with JN.1, a
sublineage of BA.2.86, being the main cause.
The Health Ministry published a warning recommending masking
in crowded locations, particularly indoors, and when engaging with vulnerable
individuals. Individuals with acute respiratory sickness symptoms are
recommended to stay home, avoid interaction, and seek medical assistance if
necessary. To maximize hospital resources, visit emergency departments only for
critical emergencies. Maintaining up-to-date vaccinations, particularly booster
doses within the last 12 months, minimizes the chance of hospitalization and
serious disease.
The Ministry of Health is working with public hospitals to
implement contingency measures, such as ensuring staffing, postponing
non-urgent treatments, and utilizing alternate care models. Singapore will
build a COVID-19 Treatment Facility at EXPO Hall 10 to relieve the demand for
critical hospital treatment.
