Canada Broadens Work Permit Program with New Occupations

Canada Recognized Employer Work Permit Program (REP) has announced the expansion of its eligible list to include 84 new occupations, allowing Canadian employers to streamline the process of hiring skilled foreign workers across various industries.

It's now easier for organizations to locate the ideal fit for their needs with the program's coverage ranging from computer geniuses to healthcare heroes.

The pilot initiative, which was first designed to target the agriculture industry, has now expanded to cover 84 more jobs in a variety of areas, such as skilled trades, engineering, and healthcare. The increase, which permits REP-eligible firms to engage temporary workers for specialized tasks such as livestock labourers, harvesting labourers, specialized livestock workers, and nursery and greenhouse labourers, underscores Canada's commitment to fulfilling the demands of a dynamic job market.

The list of professions that Canadian Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) now offers includes engineering managers, architects, cooks, retail salespeople, healthcare professionals, and construction workers. Employers can submit an application by email or through the online LMIA portal for the REP program. Benefits include expedited processing of LMIA applications, shortened turnaround times, and improved Job Bank reputation. The International Mobility Program (IMP), the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), and the Express Entry System are further choices. The TFWP fills temporary labour demands in a variety of industries, while the REP program provides a wide range of skills and knowledge. Employers may also use the Express Entry System for permanent residency and the International Mobility Program for cultural exchange initiatives.
