Malta Seeks Foreign Workers To Tackle Labor Shortage In The Country

Malta has recently announced that it is experiencing a labour shortage in the business, administrative, culinary, hospitality, and transportation sectors. The country with a population of 542,051 relies heavily on foreign labor to fill employment openings in various industries.

Maltese authorities are looking for highly skilled foreign workers. Identita is launching the Specialist Employe Initiative (SEI) to provide an alternative for highly skilled third-country nationals who do not qualify for the Key Employee Initiative but have relevant academic or technical skills for their job offer in Malta.

At the 2023 National Forum, the Malta Employer Association (MEA) underscored the critical significance of foreign workers in Malta's logistics industry, emphasizing their role in supporting and growing economic growth.

Accounting, bookkeeping, administrative, advertising, building construction, car, taxi, and van drivers, chefs, contact centre information clerks, general office clerks, managing directors, manufacturing labourers, messengers, package deliverers, office supervisors, security guards, shop sales assistants, software developers, and waiters are among the jobs in high demand in Malta, according to the 2022 EURES report. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens do not require a visa to live and work in Malta, however, they must register with the Department of Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs within three months. Non-EU citizens are required to obtain a visa. Malta has three categories of work permits: single permit, important employment initiative, and EU Blue Card.
