Kenya Airways has announced its intention to expand its weekly flight schedule into Nigeria to fifteen, with the possibility of adding more frequencies in the next two months to reach eight weekly flights overall.
The airline currently operates daily flights from Nairobi to
Lagos.
Rotimi Martins, Sales Manager for Kenya Airways, made the announcement.
In addition, he spoke about starting direct flights, at least five to eight
times a week, from Nairobi to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The Kenya Tourism Board's Magical Kenya Roadshow was the occasion for these
announcements.
“Frequency
increment has been a thing we are looking at even before the KTB event.
Presently we are doing seven flights out of Lagos, which is every day. But,
come April, we are going to add one to it, to make it eight. By the summer of
this year, we are going to do 10 flights out of Lagos to Nairobi, which means
on day seven of every week we will do morning and night flights.
“Then towards the end of the year, a little after summer, we are going
to start Abuja. So, we will be flying out of Abuja and out of Lagos. Most
likely, 15 to about 18 flights out of Nigeria weekly. That is what we are going
to do,” he stated.
According to him, Kenya Airways will keep supporting KTB's
efforts to expand tourism arrivals from Nigeria. Over the next three years, KTB
hopes to raise annual tourism arrivals from 35,000 to 10%, a goal the airline
has declared it wants to accomplish.
