Denmark's 2025 Work Visa Regulations: Increased Salary Thresholds for Foreign Workers

Denmark has announced changes to its work visa rules, effective 2025. The new regulations aim to attract highly skilled foreign workers while ensuring fair competition with Danish employees.

The minimum annual salary for foreign workers will increase to DKK 525,000 (approximately ₦31,500,000 or USD 68,000). This new threshold applies to all occupations. In addition to the minimum salary, foreign workers must meet specific salary requirements based on the median salary for each profession in Denmark.

Highly skilled workers in fields like IT, engineering, and healthcare may be eligible for exemptions from the salary requirements. However, they must still meet specific qualifications and experience criteria. Denmark will also introduce a fast-track scheme for highly skilled workers who meet specific criteria, such as a PhD degree or significant work experience.

Foreign workers must meet the new salary requirements to qualify for a work visa. Employers must adjust their salary offers to meet the new requirements and demonstrate that they cannot find a suitable candidate within the EU/EEA. The new rules aim to promote fair competition and prevent the exploitation of foreign workers.

The new work visa rules will take effect on January 1, 2025. Foreign workers and employers should review the new salary requirements and occupational criteria to prepare for the changes. For the latest information and guidance on Denmark's work visa rules, visit the official government website or consult the Danish Immigration Service.
