Portugal is making it easier for foreign workers and investors to obtain residency and citizenship. A new online portal launched by the Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum (AIMA) streamlines the application process, reducing bureaucracy and processing times.
Foreign workers with employment contracts contributing to Portugal's Social Security system can now apply for citizenship more efficiently. The new portal aims to process citizenship applications 50% faster, addressing the high volume of applications the country receives.
Investors can also benefit from the changes to the Golden Visa program. The new portal allows for:
- Electronic document submission
- Automated biometric appointments
- On-site fee payment
The Golden Visa fees have been revised to €6,045.20 for certified documents and €8,060.20 for uncertified documents per application.
With the Golden Visa, investors can live, work, and study in Portugal, travel visa-free within the Schengen Area, and reunite with family members. After five years, they can apply for Portuguese citizenship, which grants access to 191 countries without a visa.
