Air Peace To Recall Sacked Pilots

The management of Air Peace Airlines has resolved to recall some of the pilots it recently sacked. The airline had last week disengaged 70 pilots, due to the effect of COVID-19 on the travel business.

The decision to recall the sacked plots was reached after Nigeria's minister of aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika intervene in the situation. The minister, on Tuesday, called an intervention meeting between the management of the airline and leadership of the National Association of Airline Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).

The spokesperson of the ministry, James Odaudu said in the verbal agreement reached after a dialogue that was held in a very friendly environment, the chairman of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema acceded to the minister’s appeal for the recall of the maximum number of pilots that the airline can accommodate without going under.

The chairman of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema commended the minister for providing the required leadership to the industry but also expressed his disappointment over what he refers to as ingratitude of some of the pilots, after everything is done to make them comfortable on their jobs.

He recalled how Air Peace had trained close to a hundred pilots and an equal number of aircraft engineers, giving them the best remuneration package within the sector but only for them to disappoint at a time their understanding was needed.

The Aviation minister in his remarks called for the understanding of everyone, especially the Labour unions, and commended Chief Onyema for his enormous contributions in developing the industry.

He also appealed to him to recall the maximum number of the sacked pilots that the airline can comfortably accommodate.
