No fewer than 23 people were reportedly killed on Friday when a Ukrainian air force plane carrying mostly cadets in the eastern part of the country crashed. The reports have confirmed.
The Antonov-26 transport plane was said to be carrying 20 cadets and seven crew members on Friday, 25 September before it crashed two kilometers from the Chuguiv military airbase very close to the city of Kharkiv.
22 bodies were initially found after the incident on Friday, while another one was found under the charred remains of the plane in the early hour of Saturday, which brought the number of victims to 23.
Two people were seriously injured and the search for others is ongoing.
As the cause of the crash is being investigated, Ukraine's Defence Minister Andriy Taran said: "The plane likely caught the ground with its wing and caught fire."
