Zimbabwe Government has announced the resumption of both local and international flights in a bid to boost tourism in the country.
The Southern African country which suspended passenger flight services as well as shutting its borders in March to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic says travelers will be required to have a negative COVID-19 certificate before they can be allowed boarding flights in and out of the country when international flights resume.
The government said in a statement that domestic flights would resume on Friday, September 10, while international flights would commence on the 1st of October.
“All travelers will be required to have a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) COVID-19 clearance certificate issued by a recognized facility within 48 hours from the date of departure,” the statement said.
The COVID-19 lockdown has battered travel and tourism businesses across the world and has led to the closure of all tourist attractions in Zimbabwe, forcing some hotels and resorts to lay off their workers. The government of Zimbabwe said it expects the tourism sector to contract 7.4 percent this year.
Good one
