TRAVEL UPDATE: NIGERIA TO DUBAI

Barely 24 hours after the middle East giant, Emirates airline announced the suspension of flight services from Nigerian to Dubai until at least 28 February and the suspension of the Egyptian national carrier, Egypt air from the UAE, operations of the Nigeria's leading carrier, air peace airline to Dubai which resumed just a week ago has also suffered a blow as the airline has been barred from airlifting passengers to the UAE.

In a latest memo sent to the travel practionals by the Emirates airline, the carrier says: "In line with the government directives, passenger services from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) to Dubai are temporarily suspended until 28 February 2021."

"Customers from both Abuja and Lagos will not be accepted for travel prior to or including this date. Passengers who have been to or connected through Nigeria in the last 14 days are not allowed entry into the UAE (whether terminating in or connecting through Dubai)."

"Emirates flights from Dubai to Lagos and Abuja will continue to operate as per the normal schedule." It added.

Egyptain air, the only stop over flight operator granted access into the UAE after the suspension of transit flights to Dubai also wrote in its memo: "Sequel to the memo we received today 11 February, 2021 from Dubai Airport Authority suspending all direct and indirect operation of air service and passenger arrivals from Nigeria to all airports in United Arab Emirates for the period of two (2) weeks."

"In view of this, Egypt Air therefore request you to kindly notify our esteemed passengers that the Airline will not lift passengers from Nigeria to the U.A.E ( DXB,AUH&SHJ) from 11 February until 26 February 2021."

The implication of these is that no airline either direct or indirect is allowed to airlift passengers other than UAE citizens from Nigeria to the UAE for the period of two weeks.

Another memo sent by Air peace airline says that the carrier is only allowed to airlift the UAE nationals from Nigeria to Sharjah. It further stated that the decision does not affect Nigerians who desire to come home from the UAE.

Passengers who already booked Nigeria-UAE tickets have been advised to keep their tickets till a later date or contact their booking agents for possible rebooking.
