COVID-19: More Airlines Suspend Flights To India

Following the unprecedented surge in Indian coronavirus cases, many airlines have reportedly suspended flights to the country.

Kenya Airways and Uganda Airlines are part of the African carriers that first suspended their flight operations to India after the country recorded a dramatic jump to more than 400,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

According to the Indian Ministry of Health, the country recorded 401,993 new daily infections and 3,523 deaths within 24 hours. This prompted many countries to ban passengers' flights from India as well as suspending flight operations to and from India.

Another airline that operates from Nigeria that has suspended flight from India is RwandAir, the national carrier of Rwanda. RwandAir which operates about three weekly flights to Mumbai, India has suspended all its flight activities to Mumbai effective from May 1, 20201.

A statement issued by the airline says, “due to the increase in Covid-19 cases across India, RwandAir announces the suspension of its flights to Mumbai effective May 1, 2021, until further notice.”

The carrier added that: "Affected customers can rebook and fly at a later date, once flights resume, at no additional cost. They can request a travel voucher or a refund as well."

This added RwandAir to the list of growing airlines that have suspended flights to India.

“RwandAir apologizes for the inconveniences caused.”

Affected Passengers on other airlines can as well request a travel voucher or claim a refund.
