Airline Operators Restrategize To Cut Costs For Survival.

Airline operators in the Nigerian air space have faced difficult times due to some operational challenges, that brings about an unfriendly business environment.

Part of these challenges is the high cost of maintenance that is still hitting operators financially. This has created holes in their respective pockets, and most airlines have taken some good moves in order to reduce some of their operational costs.

According to the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, the airlines have re-strategized by using cost-effective aircraft for business.

"There is a standard move where People beginning to realize you can’t use Boeing 737 aircraft for short flights.

"Air Peace for instance has got an E-195, and he plans to replace all the B737 in the long term. United Nigeria is using Embraer 145. Green Africa is using ATR 42, 72.

“One has started processing its documents; is planning to use Embraer 145. Chanchangi wants to come back and they want to use ATR. The thinking is changing because this B737 business is not working for us. It is going to take a while but it is a positive change in the industry". Musa Nuhu says.

Some other upcoming airlines are already thinking smarter than others as they have adopted cheaper administrative costs.

This is not limited to airlines only as many travel agencies with different branches and many staff before the pandemic are now downsizing to one or two offices in major cities and with one or two staff in such offices while they transact through phone contacts.

The Airlines also depend on the agencies for more passengers rather than opening several offices.
