Airlines Operators Faced With Uncertainty Over Plans To Ease Travel Restrictions

Airlines operators have lamented over uncertainty being faced with the UK's plans to ease travel restrictions in the coming weeks.

There is now a high level of confusion in the industry as the Airlines and holiday providers on Friday expressed frustration with the UK's plans to ease travel restrictions. Passengers and the industry's service providers are unhappy with uncertainty over the government's new move, as the step has made it difficult for people to book their summer holidays.

The government on Thursday 24 June extended his 'green list' of safe travel destinations, permitting individuals to visit without having to undergo a 10-day self-isolation upon arriving back in the UK.

The government also added more than a dozen countries and territories to its green list, including the popular holiday destinations of Malta, Madeira, and the Balearic Islands. All of the destinations, Malta were placed on the watch list.

The changes, which will take effect at 4a.m. on Wednesday, 30 June, will see the green list increasing to 27 countries and territories.

The newly added countries are Malta, Madeira, the Balearic Islands, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean Territory, Pitcairn Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Antigua, Barbuda, and Dominica.

Others are  Barbados and Grenada, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, and Montserrat.

Britain also added six countries to the red list, including the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Uganda. This brings the number of countries covered to 56.

Recall that the transportation authorities also disclosed a plan to ease travel restrictions by permitting fully vaccinated travelers to visit higher-risk destinations, including the U.S and most of the European Union E.U, without having to self-isolate. The new change is expected to be implemented later in the summer.

Meanwhile, Shai Weiss, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic, stated that that the UK has already fallen behind the European Union reopening, and a continued overly cautious approach will further impact the economic recovery while about 500,000 people face the risk of losing their jobs again.

Virgin Atlantic offers mainly long-haul flights to destinations such as New York, Los Angeles, and Barbados.
