Covid-19: Kenya Airways Cuts Uganda Flights

Kenya Airways has cut the number of flights it operates to Entebbe following high cases of Covid-19 in Uganda and strict government containment measures, which have impacted flight demands on the route.

The airline says, is cutting the Entebbe flights by 25 percent which means only 9 out of the 12 weekly flights will now be available for passengers due to the low turn out of passenger in the route.

Uganda is one of Kenya Airways' major routes with the most frequencies in the region but the carrier has no alternative than to cut the operations as low patronage continues to affect the carrier's business.

Allan Kilavuka, chief executive of Kenya Airways discloses that "there is a third wave in Uganda and we have had to restrict our flights by cutting on frequencies".

According to him, "the emerging waves of the virus have severely impacted the carrier as each time they start picking up, countries announce outbreaks of new waves."

"Currently, Uganda is witnessing the third wave of coronavirus which has led to a total lockdown in the country with restrictions on movement from one district to another," Kilavuka added.
