COVID-19: Nigeria Shut Door Against South Africa

Nigeria has announced that it will be adding South Africa to the list of its Red-List of countries for which there are stringent restrictions for arriving passengers.

According to the officials' reports, Nigeria is placing restrictions on South Africa due to the spread of the Delta variant in the country.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the head of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control who disclosed this in a statement says South Africa will join India, Brazil, and Turkey on the list. Adding that the Delta variant hasn't been found in Nigeria yet.

Non-Nigerian passport holders and non-residents who have been to any of the countries on the list within the past 14-days are not allowed to enter the country, while passport holders and residents will have to undergo seven-day isolation in a government-approved center at the expense of the passenger.

They are also required to take COVID-19 tests within 24 hours of arrival and after seven days in quarantine.

In the meantime, Nigeria's leading carrier, Air Peace Limited has suspended all its operations to and from Johannesburg, South Africa due to the increasing rate of the Delta variant in South Africa. Before the suspension, Air Peace is the only airline operating a direct flight between the two countries since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which halted South African Airways operations.
