Covid-19: Emirates Cancels Ghana Flights Over Omicron

Emirates Airline has canceled all flights to and from Ghana indefinitely.

The airline which earlier announced the suspension of its operations to Ghana for 48 hours now says it has banned all operations to and from the West African country indefinitely.

According to the airline in its urgent broadcast sent to trade partners on Tuesday, December 28, “Emirates flight suspension from Accra to Dubai effective December 27, 2021, is now extended until further notice.”

Ghana became an alternative route for Nigerians who must be in the UAE since the rift between Nigeria and the UAE governments started in March. Nigerians who are planning a trip to the UAE must again look for other alternatives.

Emirates has banned flights to Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania before suspending Ghana flights.

The carrier also suspended the carriage of passengers to and from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

The reports have it that the suspension of flights to Ghana is linked to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded on outbound flights arriving in Dubai from Accra and Abidjan.
