US Lifts Travel Ban On Eight African countries

After the suspension of travelers from foreign countries due to the discovery of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, The United States Government has announced it will be lifting the suspension on eight African countries from Friday 31, December 2021.

According to White House spokesperson Kevin Munoz on Twitter, "the decision to remove the eight countries which are mainly South Africans, was recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

Kevin Munoz tweeted that “the restrictions gave us time to understand Omicron and we know our existing vaccines work against Omicron, esp boosted.”

African countries where the ban has been lifted are South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini, and Mozambique.

Foreign nationals who have been to those countries in the previous 14-days have not been allowed to enter the United States since November 29, 2021.

"Travelers to the United States, including vaccinated citizens, need to present proof of a COVID-19 test taken within one day of travel. Prior to that change, vaccinated travelers could test within three days of departing for the US, while unvaccinated passengers were required to test within one day." The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.
