South African Airways (SAA) and Kenya Airways (KQ) are set to form a major alliance.
The two carriers have revealed their plans on creating a Pan-African airline. The new alliance will undoubtedly help the two operators recover from the current financial situation.
According to Kenya’s President in his New Year’s Address, “To boost tourism, trade, as well as social engagement, and to bolster continental integration, our national carrier Kenya Airways will join hands with partners in South Africa to establish a Pan-African airline, with unmatched continental reach and global coverage.”
The two airlines have been in a state of struggle since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. South African Airways has just emerged from bankruptcy in September 2021, after almost two years of no operations, while Kenyan Airways has been struggling to maintain frequency.
