Saudi Arabia may soon lift the travel restrictions it placed on Nigeria. This follows an appeal by the federal government of Nigeria to Saudi Arabian government to lift the travel restrictions it imposed on Nigerian travelers following the outbreak of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
Nigeria Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, made the appeal on Saturday when he met with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria.
Dada in a statement urged the Saudi Authorities to review the travel restrictions it placed on Nigerians over the Omicron outbreak. He noted that many countries that have earlier banned Nigeria have since reversed their decision after observing the fight against the Omicron by the Nigerian government.
The minister also commended the cordial relationship that has been existing between the two countries for years and continues to exist between them.
The Minister however expressed optimism for a timely response to Nigeria’s request from Saudi Arabia after Ambassador Al-Ghamdi from Saudi Arabia expressed satisfaction with the effort the government is making to contain the spread of Omicron and promised to convey Nigeria’s message to the relevant authorities back home in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
