European Union Sets New Guidelines For Nigerian Carriers

The European Union (EU) has set new rules for Nigerian and Other nations' carriers.

Nigerian carriers and other international airlines are now required to provide advance cargo information by filling out an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) form as part of the European Union's (EU) new requirement. This has given air freight into Europe a whole new meaning.

This legislation will impact the aircraft operating out of Nigeria, notably Allied Air, Cargo Lux, and other African carriers that transport cargo from the airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt into Europe.

New pre-arrival and pre-loading regulations for air cargo, express, or postal shipments to or through the EU have gone into effect. The Import Control Systems 2 (ICS2) Release 2 program, the second phase of the EU's new customs pre-arrival security and safety initiative, is responsible for developing the new policy.

The EU has made plans to make it easier for commodities to flow from customs offices at the first point of entry to final destinations within the EU. The EU customs agency claims that ICS2 will simplify requests for further information and pre-departure risk assessment by customs officials.
