As the aviation sector works towards recovery from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, German national carrier, Lufthansa has announced that it will be canceling hundreds of flights during the summer holidays due to workforce shortages.
As the outbreak subsides, the airline has witnessed a "surge in demand," which it hs described as "excellent news" after the "worst aviation disaster ever." However, "infrastructure has not fully recovered," causing "bottlenecks and staff shortages" in Europe, according to the report.
As a result, Lufthansa announced that on Fridays,
Saturdays, and Sundays in July, it will cancel 900 German and European flights
at its Frankfurt and Munich hubs - around 5% of its regular weekend
capacity. Passengers who had already purchased tickets will be notified
and their flights would be rescheduled, according to the business.
In the run-up to the Eurozone migrant crisis,
Lufthansa has urged customers to use digital services as much as possible and
to limit carry-on luggage. Last month, the airline predicted a record summer
for tourist activity, citing the latest data as evidence of the coronavirus
pandemic's impact on passenger numbers.
