Lufthansa Ground Staff To Begin Strike On Wednesday

In response to a salary disagreement, ground personnel at Deutsche Lufthansa, German's flag carrier (LHAG.DE), will begin strike on Wednesday.  The industrial which is about to be embarked on will no doubt lead to more flight cancellations and delays which will significantly affect travel during the busy summer travel season.

Verdi the largest private sector union in Germany predicted that this Wednesday's staff walkout at Lufthansa's ground operations would result in more cancellations and delays because it involved personnel responsible for crucial tasks like aircraft maintenance and pushing back aircraft from the gate so they could proceed to the runway for takeoff. German airports, notably Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Berlin, are impacted by the strike.

Verdi has rejected management's most recent salary offer for airport employees because it isn't enough to counteract the rate of inflation, which is on the rise. Last month, the union requested a 9.5 percent pay increase, or $368 more per month, for approximately 20,000 employees.

According to the statement made by Verdi deputy chief Christine Behle on Monday, the workers "urgently need more money and they need relief for themselves and for the passengers."
