British Airways Resumes Short-Haul Flights After Two Weeks Suspension

Barely two weeks after the introduction of passengers' by the London Heathrow Airport Authority, British Airways will start selling tickets for short-haul flights out of the airport. The management of Heathrow Airport in an effort to manage capacity and minimize disturbance during the busiest time of the year introduced a passenger cap which led to a suspension of short-haul flights by the airline in the month of July.

BA said it may take "targeted measures" to restrict the number of tickets or prices offered on particular flights. This follows a sales stoppage at Heathrow,  The airline says it will keep managing reservations within Heathrow's new passenger cap, which was enforced last July after turmoil and flight disruptions caused by a staffing shortfall at Heathrow.

Heathrow's limitations on the number of departures each day forced the airport to decide whether to stop selling tickets or engage in a power battle with Emirates Airlines. In the end, "capacity modifications" were made by the UAE airline for flights to the airport in London. Heathrow attributed the major travel delays to a staffing shortage among airlines, which affected ground workers, security, and luggage handlers.

On Thursday, John Holland-Kaye, the airport's top executive, claimed that since the cap went into effect, travelers had "better, more reliable journeys."

According to a BA spokesman, the airline would "continue to work with Heathrow to provide certainty for our existing customers, while giving opportunities for new customers to travel with us this summer."
