Many flights have been canceled on Monday in Spain due to the ongoing strike in the country. The staff of major airlines embarked on strike over nonpayment of their salaries.
Iberia Express estimates that the cancellations will impact 1,300 passengers. They also encouraged the USO union to swiftly put a stop to the cabin staff strike.
“Choose dialogue instead of social
confrontation, which harms the workers of Iberia Express, their clients, and the
future of the company,” the statement stated.
At least 92 flights are expected to
be canceled until September 2 as a result of the 10-day strike at Iberia
Express, which began on Sunday. The USO union that is driving the walkout
claims that the pay for the cabin workers has been frozen for seven years.
Additionally, this round of Easyjet pilot strikes, which have resulted in more
than 87 flight cancellations this month, ends on Monday.
“During the pandemic, Easyjet used
the argument of potential job losses to demand a worsening of pilots’ labor
conditions. Pilots accepted these conditions responsibly to keep their jobs and ensure the company’s survival,” as reported by Sepla.
The Spanish airline industry has had
many strikes this summer, including a cabin crew strike for Ryanair. Spain
experienced a 20% rise in strike activity in the first half of 2022.
Neighboring Portugal is recovering from a weekend that was severely stressful
for travelers due to airport strikes in Lisbon and Oporto that resulted in 118
flight cancellations.
