Netherlans Grants Highly Skilled Foreigners Work Permit

The government of the Netherlands has announced that highly skilled immigrants can now work in the country without a permit.

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), which operates under the Ministry of Justice and Security, has announced that highly skilled migrants who are not required to obtain a long-term visa (MVV) may start working in the country while waiting for their residence permit to be ready.

In a statement released on Monday, August 1, the IND declared, "From July 22, 2022, a highly skilled migrant who is not subject to an MVV may start working if the residence document is not ready yet. This must be stated in the notification you have received and may be for a maximum of four months.”

Foreign nationals without long-term visas will be able to begin work in the Netherlands as soon as they arrive on the basis of their clearance letter. Those who acquired the approval prior to this date must still acquire a residence endorsement sticker. For stays longer than three months, only citizens of Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, the Vatican City, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Switzerland are required to get a visa. Highly trained professionals are recommended to schedule an appointment with the office for two to three months from now.

"Make sure you can show the notification and an appointment confirmation (and possibly the expired residence document) if requested," the IND advises.
