Nigeria Lifts COVID-19 Rules For All Travellers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that all COVID-19 health regulations for all categories of travelers have been lifted. FG has eliminated all restrictions previously imposed on passengers and airline operators across the country.

For both domestic and international airlines, Nigeria's aviation regulatory agency released updated COVID-19 public health recommendations for all aviation service providers. Capt. Musa Nuhu, Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said that the pandemic's prevalence in Nigeria and most other countries have been kept at a low level for an extended length of time.

The new rule stated that the use of facemasks by airport staff, visitors, and crew members within airport terminal buildings and onboard aircraft is no longer required. In addition, the PSC ordered airlines to continue providing catering (meals and drinks) inside of aircraft. The use of alcohol-based sanitizers is advised for both travelers and airport staff. The washing of luggage at the entrance to terminal buildings is also no longer necessary.

Regardless of vaccination status, pre-departure and post-arrival COVID-19 PCR tests have been removed for all passengers. It also removed health declaration paperwork and a travel authorization code or QR code. The same standards apply to local operations and must also be used for international operations.

All travelers flying to Nigeria must fill out a brief health questionnaire (not related to COVID-19), according to Nuhu's announcement. However, He, Nuhu issued a warning that any aviation service provider who disobeyed an Operators Letter (AOL) will face severe punishment. He clarified that passengers who do not complete the health questionnaire on the NITP before departure must do so once they board the aircraft or at the airport terminal building.
