Ethiopian Sets To Return To China's Pre-Pandemic Capacity

Following the recent removal of COVID travel restrictions in China, Ethiopian Airlines is set to increase capacity in the Asian country and restore frequencies to the pre-pandemic levels as of March this year.

Ethiopian Airlines has earlier in February commenced daily flight operations
to Guangzhou. In addition, the airline would maintain its three weekly flights to Chengdu while increasing its weekly flights to Beijing and Shanghai. Following the Chinese government's lifting of restrictions, this will be a return to pre-COVID-19 levels. When all services are back in operation, the airline will run 28 passenger flights to China each week.

Mesfin Tasew, CEO of the Airlines Group, said, "We are glad that we are ramping up the frequencies of our flights to Chinese cities thanks to the easing of flight restrictions by the Government of China."

"China is one of the largest markets for Ethiopian Airlines outside Africa, and the increase in flight frequencies will help revive trade, investment, cultural, and bilateral cooperation between Africa and China in the post-COVID era," the CEO added.

"Thanks to our large network across Africa, the increase in the number of flights to Chinese cities will bring Africa and China closer together." "We are keen to further expand our service to China going forward," he stated.
