UK Plans To Reduce International Students’ Stay To 6 Months After Graduation

The United Kingdom UK government has announced its plans to reduce the period of stay for international students in the country to six months. The move is a result of the conflicting visa and educational policies.

According to a BBC reporter, "the looming deportation is as a result of the row between the UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman and the Department of Education."

Suella Braverman wants the period the international students can stay in the country after graduating reduced to six months instead of the current two years.

"The Department for Education intends to shorten it from two years to just six months, after which they must find skilled employment that qualifies them for a work visa or leave the UK." The report says.
"Braverman has committed to cut immigration and "substantially reduce" the number of unskilled foreign workers coming to Britain, from 239,000 to "tens of thousands."

"As part of that, she wants to reduce the number of international students who can apply for a graduate post-study work visa, which allows any student who has passed their degree to remain and work in the UK for at least two years.

"But education officials fear this will make the UK less attractive to foreign students, who pay far more than UK students for their courses and are a major source of income for universities," the BBC stated.
