Malta’s Startup Residence Programme And Eligibility

Malta has announced a Startup Residence Scheme that will grant vital employees, co-founders, and founders a three-year residence permit. Startups looking for early-stage financing can get grants, loans, and assistance through Malta Enterprise's Startup Residence Scheme. Participants have access to networking opportunities, mentoring, and potential funding from domestic and foreign investors.

With the Startup Residence Scheme, business owners can benefit from a three-year residence permit, family inclusion, mentorship possibilities, investment opportunities, a competitive tax system, an efficient regulatory environment, and a skilled workforce. Employees may extend it for an additional three years, while founders and co-founders may extend it for an additional five years. Business owners can also ask for their spouses, children, and other dependents to come to Malta with them, ensuring a smooth transition for the entire family. Participants can also take advantage of networking opportunities, mentoring, and potential funding from both domestic and international investors. Business owners can start operating in Malta right away because the approval process typically takes less than 90 days.

Applicants for the Startup Residence Program must have a specific goal to develop and/or grow their business in Malta. They must be physically present in Malta, possess health insurance and financial resources, be the owner or a co-owner of a legally registered business, be clear of profit distribution and mergers, be clean of any criminal convictions, and have never had an application for residency status or citizenship declined. The program is open to companies working in manufacturing, industrial services, green start-ups, software development, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and other cutting-edge economic fields. It calls for a minimum of €25,000 in paid-up share capital and/or physical investment, with an additional €10,000 for each subsequent co-founder.
