Canada has announced that it will reopen its Home Child Care
& Support Worker Pilot programs beginning January 1, 2024.
These programs are designed to assist caregivers pursuing permanent residency in the United States. The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot will accept new applications beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), allowing eligible caregivers and their families to move to Canada and create a permanent future.
The country is proposing five-year pilot programs enabling
eligible caregivers and their families to immigrate to the nation and become
permanent residents. The application process is separated into two main
pathways: Direct Entry into Permanent Residence and Gaining Experience. Fees
start at $CAN 1,085. Direct Entry into Permanent Residence is possible for
persons with 12 months of relevant work experience through the Home Support
Worker Pilot or Home Child Care Provider Pilot. Gaining Experience is
accessible for persons with less than 12 months of work experience or no previous
full-time caregiving work experience in Canada.
The minimum work experience requirement for domestic
caregivers applying for permanent residency in Canada has been cut from 24
months to 12 months. Applicants must demonstrate appropriate experience,
particularly if they have previously applied under the "Gaining
Experience" category. Visit the official Canada.ca website to apply for
Canada PR in Caregiver Programs, demonstrate English or French proficiency
through approved language tests, have foreign education credentials evaluated
by Canada-approved organisations, prepare and submit a complete permanent
residence application package, and attend a biometrics appointment. The online
application cap for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot for 2023 has been
reached, but the alternate format is still available. The Home Support Worker
Pilot program still takes applications online and in alternative media.
