Lagos State has announced its intention to establish an
airline for passenger operations as preparations for the airport in Lekki near
completion.
At the Lagos West Senatorial District People's Town Hall Meeting, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled this proposal while praising his administration's accomplishments and stewardship in the western region of Lagos.
According to Pa Muhammed Hassan, a retired Auditor General
for Local Government in Lagos and former Permanent Secretary, the state is
prepared to run an airline. The proposal has been in the works for months,
according to Governor Sanwo-Olu, with the state completing the finance
arrangement. The Governor is expecting operational contingencies and clearance
from the federal government.
“Over the last five months, Mr Deputy Governor and I have been working
to put a concise plan together for the establishment of an airline, but we did
not make the plan open because of the need to get adequate knowledge about the
operational procedures of airlines.”
“The business plan is viable and there is no issue about financing. The
conversation has advanced, but we need to get the proper
information on operations before we implement the plan,” he stated.
